xiv account nuked
I decided to freeze (or rather deactivate) my FFXIV-centric Bluesky account indefinitely in the spirit of spending less time on social media.
It's hard to believe that I'll be playing this game for six years when April rolls in. I've made a lot of good friends (and possibly a few enemies, but I don't really take stock of that), seen the worst and the best of the social media side of the FFXIV community both on X and on Bluesky (I've even seen the horrors that is Reddit), where it's come to a point that it's distressing that the racism, transphobia and homophobia from prominent "figures" become the topic du jour every few months. But that's not just a problem with FFXIV's social media - that's a problem with legitimately all fandoms with a sizeable social media presence.
I decided I was going to fridge my FFXIV-centric bluesky for an indefinite amount of time to decide if I still want to be a part of the community or if I could find community somewhere else that doesn't involve me having to put on my jester hat and perform. To be fair me posting anything about my FFXIV OCs here is the same thing, but I think the worst that could happen is having my blog hidden from someone's sight anyway. Plus I won't get invasive comments about why I make my OCs the way they look/how I write them, or end up catching strays when someone else gets said invasive questions. That's already a huge bonus to me. Funny how it tends to happen with queer POC that play this game though.
I don't really want to make this a long post about the problems with fandoms on social media these days. That's something for the other blog of mine. I will say if you've enjoyed my XIV posting at all.. well you're about to get more of it soon. Cheers!
